THE SOLTERRA STORY
In 2002, I visited the wine country of Chile and
discovered a burgeoning paradise. After spending a day tasting
tantalizing red wine created by masterful Chilean winemakers, I was
invited by friends to take a horseback ride through vineyards that lay
at the feet of the majestic Andes. I was enchanted by the
richness of tastes, the fragrant aromas, the warmth of the sun-drenched
climate and its people, and the natural beauty of the surrounding
landscape.
As I talked with winemakers and managers of vineyards, I began to
understand the enormous untapped potential Chile has to produce
world-class wine. Between the stunning Andes and the striking seaside
in the center of that narrow country of Chile lies terrain that is ripe
for wine production.
After I returned to the states, the idea for creating my own wine label
fermented in my mind. The name SOLTERRA emerged as a name that
represented the merging of two aspects of Chilean terrain that earn its
distinct character - an abundance of sun and the perfect geographic
conditions for great wine.
For the SOLTERRA label, I hand-select Chilean wine that is rich in
character and taste, but priced competitively so it’s accessible to a
wide range of consumers.
